WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

EARLY WORSHIP SERVICE

The early worship service is in the “traditional” style.  Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by our ushers and provided a printed bulletin and announcements.  You are welcome to sit anywhere you feel comfortable.  The service lasts about 1 hour.

The “traditional” worship service is slightly more formal in its liturgy and interaction style than the later service.  The pastors, for example, wear clergy robes.  The predominant form of music includes the chancel and chamber choirs, hymns and organ music.  Communion is served the 1st Sunday of each month.

COFFEE & FELLOWSHIP

Coffee and light snacks are provided after the first service.  Coffee & Fellowship is offered in the back of the sanctuary during the fall and winter months, and outside on the patio during the spring and summer months.

9:40AM ADULT EDUCATION (program year only)

Adult education occurs between the two worship services, from 9:40am – 10:25am and occassionally on Sunday afternoons.  An up-to-date list of offerings and locations can be found on the Adult Classes page.

LATE WORSHIP SERVICE

The late worship service is in the “contemporary” style.  Upon arrival, you will be warmly greeted by our ushers and provided printed announcements.  This service utilizes Powerpoint slides for the liturgy.  You are welcome to sit anywhere you feel comfortable.  The worship service lasts about 70 minutes.

The “contemporary” worship service is less formal in its liturgy and interaction style than the early worship service.  The predominant form of music includes more contemporary songs interspersed with a few hymns.  An accoustic worship band provides the music leadership, with periodic appearances by the chancel and chamber choirs.  Communion is served weekly.

Sunday School for children and youth run concurrent with the late worship service during the program year.

HOW SHOULD I DRESS?

Come as you are to worship. Dress is casual and varied at Davis Community Church. Some choose to dress up in their Sunday finest, while others wear a t-shirt and jeans.  Even the pastors wear jeans in worship!  All visitors are welcome in whatever attire you feel most comfortable.

AM I GOING TO BE INTRODUCED PUBLICLY?

No.  The last thing that we want to do is embarrass anyone by doing a group introduction (introverts around the world cheer!).  Someone will welcome you at some point while you are here, but they will do so personally.  If you sing beautifully, someone may suggest you consider the choir or worship band, even when visiting for the first time.

Know that you are invited to join us for refreshments after the first service, but we understand if you need to leave immediately. There is always next time.

We will offer a gift to you (music CD) if you’re interested.   They are available in the back of the sanctuary.  No expectations.  No strings attached.

WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN?

Davis Community Church provides a full array of childcare options during the program year, including childcare for birth – age 5 starting at 10:15am.  Program offerings for toddler – grade 12 begin at 10:30am.

Though we provide great childcare options, childrenand babies are always welcome in worship! Rocking chairs are available in the back of the sanctuary for nursing mothers or new parents. The back of sanctuary has a clear partition to reduce noise if you are worried that your child might be a distraction.  However, we encourage you to sit wherever you feel most comfortable.  We celebrate the noise, the fidgeting, the swinging of legs and the occasional giggle.  Worship is mean to be full of life.  Babies and children help to remind us of the beauty of life.

ARE YOU INCLUSIVE?

You better believe it!  Jesus led a life that challenged societal barriers, and so do we.  Our congregation is comprised of young and old, housed and un-housed, PhD’s and high school drop-outs, rich and poor, disabled and temporarily-able-bodied, professors and students, married, divorced, partnered and single, gay and straight and everything in between.  If you’re human, you are welcomed here.

WHAT ABOUT SUMMER WORSHIP

Summer worship follows a different schedule than the regular program year.  Worship occurs at 9:00am (Traditional Worship) and 10:30am (Contemporary Worship).  There is no Adult Education between the services.
