Season of Giving: Stewardship, 2018-19
Dear Friends of DCC,
DCC is an incredible community doing remarkable things. And frankly, it’s one of the most socially responsible organizations I know. It fulfills a blend of spiritual and religious values our society desperately needs — a way of life that not only promotes personal transformation, but also fosters gospel-values like generosity, inclusiveness, civility, and dignity. Communities like ours are sorely needed in today’s challenging political, environmental, and social climate.
In the midst of a troubled world, DCC seeks to build bridges, innovate boldly, meet practical needs, work cooperatively with others, and foster a faith experience so that hope may rise among us. We envision our life together and the place we gather as a hybrid space for people of all walks of life. We’re a center for spiritual formation, human transformation, and compassionate engagement; we aim to nourish fruitful ways of life that can make us all more open, more generous, and more courageous — and the world more beautiful, sustainable, and capable of honoring the sacredness that’s all around us.
Toward this goal, I invite your financial participation in the work we do. 70% of our annual income is based on the pledges people like you make to our ministry. A “pledge” simply means that you evaluate your charitable giving for the year ahead and determine what you, in faith, can give toward our mission and ministry between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. A pledge isn’t a bill, nor is it a duty. Rather, it’s a statement of faith that says you believe in what DCC stands for and does, and that you’re willing to help us plan for the year ahead. It’s intended to help you set a goal in support of our work and help us match our ministry efforts to our resources.
Pledging might be a familiar practice to you; you may have done it for years and find it a helpful and meaningful spiritual practice. Maybe pledging is new to you and it feels formal and institutional. If it’s new, I hope you’ll give it a try. There are no rules other than giving us your best, good faith estimate of what you’d like to contribute in the fiscal year to come on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis. If it feels formal and institutional, we hope you’ll recognize that it is actually an expression of the kind of commitments communities need in order to thrive. And if your capacity to fulfill your pledge over the year changes, we will not hold you to it. That said, if pledging is still not a way of giving that feels right for you; please know that we are thankful for all forms of support we receive. We trust the God who inspires you to give will provide for what the congregation needs to fulfill its mission.
The point is this, by participating in the life of this congregation with your time and talent, and through your financial investment, you help us hold out the bright light of the Christ’s vision for what human life can be and how we can work together for the wellbeing of the world.
So, thank you in advance for your investment our mission and ministry, for helping us hold out the light of hope and offer programs and experiences that help create a more just, verdant, and sustainable planet. You may make a pledge here.
Peace to you and to all on God’s good earth,
The Rev. Dr. Chris Neufeld-Erdman, Pastor
