Youth Leadership Davis Accepting Applications
Youth Leadership Davis (YLD) equips high school students to be community leaders through hands-on experience, skill building and education. YLD allows high school students (grades 10-12) to confront the vexing and controversial issues of our day. Various social/ethical situations are discussed in to order build a surer grasp of philosophy that can help us make sense of politics, morality, and our own convictions.
Students learn important interpersonal skills and about mental health and addiction. They serve in various ways within our community including as trained interns at Davis’ Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter. They learn about the root causes of homelessness, and have opportunities to develop and carry out other projects related to homelessness. They reflect and deepen their experience through thoughtful conversation and compassionate listening. Moral, ethical and spiritual reflection is a component of the program.
YLD is a non-denominational, non-sectarian program open to all high school students grades 10 – 12. Applications for the 2017-18 YLD class are due Monday, October 2, 2017.
