Racial Healing Circles

2 Circles, one in English, one in Spanish

A healing circle’s purpose is to reaffirm the humanity in all of us. During these circles we enter a dialogue that helps us lift up what unites us rather than what divides us, while discovering, respecting and honoring the unique experiences of each person. A pair of trained racial healing practitioners facilitate each circle by leading the dialogue through a series of provocative questions and ensuring that these circles are confidential, safe spaces for all participants to have truthful conversations with one another. The experience relies on intentional listening and often leads to emotional and even transformational journeys for the participants as it can unearth painful truths, conscious and unconscious biases. Come and share your stories about race, culture, ethnicity, color, and class to promote awareness, consciousness, empathy, and healing.

Juan Carlos Ruiz trained by the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities as a circle keeper, will facilitate the event. In each of the circles he had facilitated or attended, he has experienced a deep appreciation for the power of these type of dialogues. In these workshops, both facilitators and participants had a positive experience and an opportunity to network with others who are seeking to heal from the health impacts of racism.
